The only tricky thing is that the d-pad works off of absolute screen direction, meaning the direction you tap is the direction it goes. Other than that, get that apple snake-boy!

BDCraft makes available some nice free block textures that can give voxel projects a different look. This project will install them in your documents folder for you, and also demonstrates how to use them.
