LLMs love the forums

I gotta make a pitch for moving more conversation to these forums instead of Discord.

Discord is sexy and flashy and fast and easy.

But it has a real cost for Codea users.

When someone figures out a coding problem and they post the solution to Discord, it gets swallowed by the void.

  • LLMs don’t play well with Discord; they cannot discover content on it so ChatGPT and Claude can’t find that solution
  • humans themselves have a hard time unearthing code solutions on Discord because its search features aren’t great, in the first place, and in the second place the nature of Discord makes following conversations often require scrolling around and weeding out the comments that aren’t about what you’re interested in
  • conversely, solutions posted on the forums can be found by LLMs and help them get better at the Codea API

Discord makes it hard/impossible for both LLMs and humans to find helpful code solutions. I know I’m paddling upstream here, but I gotta pitch a return to the forums as the central place for Codea discussions.

I know Discord is fun but it seems to me there’s no way around it: Discord is bad for Codea.

You’re absolutely right. I hate how “locked up” all our info becomes on Discord

Migrating is hard, but I’ll try to preference being on here and look at improving the performance of this site
