iPhone real estate

In general I feel that the iPhone UI is way too large.

On the iPad the nice big juicy buttons and interface elements are a pleasure and really make great use of the feeling of abundant screen space.

On the iPhone (especially the 5.5” screens) I find myself wishing almost all the UI elements were not much larger than the Human Interface recommended size for tappable screen elements.

@UberGoober which elements in particular are you thinking of?

  • The keyboard accessory bar
  • The buttons along the top (Close / Edit / Tab Name / Do / Play)
  • The line gutter

I have some improvements coming for iPhone — namely the ability to disable line wrapping, but I’m interested in anywhere we can make some easy changes to improve the experience

Here are some things that seemed like odd uses of space to me.

The screen shots of the App Store and the settings app are for comparison.

I love the app and I’m thrilled to see it on the iPhone now.

Also it would be neat to see a list view on the project screen because there would finally be a place the “description” projectInfo setting could be seen

Thanks for the great feedback @UberGoober. I’ll see what I can do with it. Some of them seem like easy things to change

I’m glad it might help! I forgot to mention that the redundant “play” buttons, to me, feel like a feature on the iPad and a bug on the iPhone.

I really like having multiple ways to play a project when there’s usually one button much nearer to my fingers than the other.

But on the iPhone the difference is never all that great, and as always, iPhone screen real estate is super tight.

@UberGoober true. Need to re-think the play button positioning
