…sorry I cut an pasted the code in a new project in Main but it doesn’t show
There is this message at line 96:
. Attempt to index global ‘Windows’(a nil value)
…sorry have pity of a total ignorant :">
You have to get my ‘windows’ library in a project (http://twolivesleft.com/Codea/Talk/discussion/2542/a-windows-utility#Item_19), then make a ‘dependency’ from your project to this library (hit the + button on top right).
Or if this is too complex i can make a stand-alone version that includes the library.
But it seems you are really beginning => you wont be able to program anything if you dont learn CODEA first, i am sorry… I made this quickly to answer your question ‘is it possible to…’ , but you must learn CODEA first.
Thank you, indeed, I just started to try to learn it … as I have in mind a couple of ideas or “projects” (… well, may be some more than a couple ) and as I always have seen Codea quoted and prized for “games making” (and my projects are not about games) my “basic” question was just to know if it was better to start learning Codea or to try to learn C . Now I know (grace to you & friends) that Codea (and Lua) may be the right answer!!! This, for me, is yet a big step forward and I’ m really trying hard, but happily, to learn them ! My only previous “knowledge” about programming date back to “basic language” (very few) and OPL on Psion Series 3 (a lot more) … all in all a very poor and outdated knowledge it’s time to do something better and I hope to be able to do it also grace to the the usefulness and courtesy of this forum :-;
Thank you Jmv38, you are really friendly and supportive!!!
you know, i am not really a good programmer: it took me 3 months to do a standalone timer in javascript and HTML5 ( shame on me). But LUA langage is amazingly simple: you just have to understand a few things, and then everything works as expected! There doesn’t seem to be any limit (even the speed limit, as could be in a langage based on interpreting text tables, seem to be not a problem because CODEA brings the mesh and shaders to our reach). I am very enthousistic about LUA+CODEA because i am amazed by what i can achieve, with just a little perseverance and logic (as i said i am not a programmer).
@luger - I think we all appreciate that people have to start somewhere and you’ll find one of the best things about this forum is that we all really want to help people get up to speed as part of this great community… but… As @Jmv38 mentioned, the only real way is learn is to try things out yourself and experiment with Codea (and Lua!), try doing simple things, pick apart the example code, make mistakes and build on what you’ve learned to do more complex things.
We’ve all been there and it’s hard at first - but stick with it and put in the groundwork. People then will then be more likely to help if they see you’re having a go yourself
@andymac3d thanks ! Indeed this is my schedule and what I’ll try to do … I’m still trying different tutorials for Codea and Lua and going trough them … and messing up with the first examples of programs … It’ a bit discouraging, some time, but I’ll stick with it … to give up is not something I easily do
Hi @ignatz you know what? i have added street view… :)) :)) :)) i love CODEA!
Go to my site to get it.
