Making lists of numbers

I’m not too new to programming, but I’m not very old either.
I’m trying to do ray casting on the Codea app, and was wondering something that would be important for me to continue with it: How to make the map.
All the tutorials I’ve seen on ray casting have some kind of way to make maps, using a variable and a few rows of brackets… Here’s an example taken from Opera’s HTML5 lessons…

I’m wondering, how do I do that in Lua?

Almost the same syntax will work in Lua. You don’t need the “var” keyword, and arrays (lua calls them tables) are indexed from 1.
