Figure out available memory for image allocations?

Another question about device information. Is it possible to calculate the available memory to know how large images I can allocate without crashing the app? For example if I want to create N image object with the maximum size available. (For a drawing program with layers)

Again this is (AFAIK) not possible in Corona - you can easily add it into the exported xCode project and then create a custom add-on to return it to your app (just fake it whilst working in Codea directly).

But things like total memory will probably vary a lot even on the same device due to what other apps / services the device is running. I’d try and come up with a system the cache’s your images to storage and then swaps them in / out as required.
